Aquatic Therapies

Aquatic Therapies are the cornerstone of Adriatic Therapies and are offered in the form of private therapy sessions, private and small group personal training sessions.  Services such as Watsu, aquatic massage and overcoming water fears are all available to you at Adriatic Therapies.

Aquatic Massage

Aquatic Massage is the healing embrace of warm water magnified by the presence of a skilled therapist.  Using a variety of individualized massage techniques, spine softening movements, opening stretches and dynamic stillness, the therapist, water and client work together to activate and amplify the body’s innate movement toward balance.

Aquatic massage is recommended for: muscle tension, stress, recovery from injury or surgery, postural imbalances, OCD, PTSD, ADD and depression.

Watsu®

Watsu is a passive assisted form of aquatic movement therapy rooted in Zen Shiatsu. Watsu uses the support of the warm water (96 °C or 36 °F) to take the pressure of gravity off of your spine in ways not possible on land. Muscle tension is released as your therapist floats and stretches your body through the calming water. A deeply relaxing therapy that promotes physical release.

Watsu is recommended for: chronic back pain, stress related disorders, fibromyalgia, arthritis, postural imbalances, ADD, PTSD, depression and much more.

Overcoming Water Fears

You are not alone. Approximately 62% of the adult population of The United States has some level of fear or discomfort in the water. Most do not know that it is possible to profoundly heal it.

Working with a skilled specially trained therapist, this service offers you the very real opportunity to overcome the fears and misconceptions that have blocked you from the joy of being peaceful and  relaxed in the water.  Whether there was an incident, such as a near drowning, or just a mysterious discomfort or fear, this individualized, multifaceted approach has proven to be effective in changing peoples relationship with the water…permanently.

Overcoming water fears is recommended for: anyone with any level of fear or discomfort in the water

Please note: This is not a swimming lesson

Aquatic Meditation

This is a partially guided meditation practice in the warm water. The session is divided into sections which include embodiment, sensory awareness, breathwork, stillness, & floating. During the float portion, your guide steps back to simply hold the space safe and sacred for your journey.

Aquatic Meditation is recommended for:  all levels of practice. The novice particularly benefits from the guided portion of this service which can include a ‘basics of meditation practice’ section.

Please note: This service is individualized to meet the needs and practice level of the client and may not always follow the above format.

Aquatic Personal Training for Therapeutic Purpose

Personal training in the aquatic environment gives many advantages. With the removal of gravity, your joints experience more range of motion with less impact.  In the warm water, your muscles warm up rapidly and the hydrostatic pressure provides a gentle, detoxifying  massage as you exercise.

With one on one attention, we can shape your aquatic personal training session to meet your specific physical and emotional needs.

Aquatic Personal Training is recommended for: all fitness levels.  This service is particularly helpful to those who are overweight, have not exercised before or for a long time.  This service is also excellent for anyone with arthritis,  joint, or mobility issues, or are recovering from injury or surgery.

Please note: We use both warm and cold water pools to maximize the possibility for just the right therapeutic environment to meet your needs.
